Information the app stores on your device
Every image and archive you open in PikaView is processed and displayed entirely on your device. The app never sends what you view to any external server.
The app stores the following information on your device:
- Display, interaction, and shortcut settings
- Viewing history (the names and locations of files and folders you've opened)
- Your last viewing position
- Thumbnail cache
- Pro license status
You can delete the record of opened files and folders at any time using 'Clear All History' in Settings. This won't remove your settings, last viewing position, thumbnail cache, or Pro license status.
Activating and verifying your Pro license
License issuance and payment are handled by Polar.sh, an external licensing and payment service. When you activate, re-verify, or deactivate a license, the app connects to Polar.sh and sends the following information:
- Your license key
- A device identifier issued by Polar.sh, used to distinguish which device is being activated
- A device label describing your OS (e.g. 'PikaView (macOS)'). It never includes your computer name or your name.
Your license key is stored in your OS's secure storage (Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows).
Purchases and payment
Pro purchases are completed on Polar.sh's purchase page. Payment details such as your card number are handled entirely by Polar.sh — the PikaView app and website never receive them.

App updates
The macOS version distributed from our website checks for a new version on launch. This check, and any update download, connects to our distribution server (delivered via Cloudflare); as with any ordinary web request, Cloudflare processes connection information such as your IP address. Updates are only downloaded and installed if you agree on the confirmation screen.
The Windows MSI version also connects to the same distribution server to check for updates on launch. The install-free ZIP does not update automatically; new versions are downloaded manually from the official website.
Information the website handles
This website does not use analytics tools. It stores only a language-preference cookie, used to select the language at the root URL.
The language you choose on this site is saved in browser storage and in that cookie. The cookie contains only your language preference.
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. As part of delivering the site, Cloudflare may process information related to your access.
External services
This website and app include links to external services such as Polar.sh. How your information is handled once you leave is governed by each service's own privacy policy.
